This anti-virus is registered from government of Pakistan and is not free, there is no trial version of this anti-virus.

Getting Gmail on your Mobile Phone

Checking Gmail on your phone isn’t reserved for those of us with extra fancy mobile devices -  sure, it’s easier to use Gmail when your iPhone has a touchscreen or there’s a downloadable app built especially for your BlackBerry, but Gmail is available on almost all mobile devices today. If your phone has a data plan, it can get Gmail. There are three main ways to check your messages on the go:

Download Gmail Application

For those phones, which support application download and install for instance J2ME, Sybmian and blackberry phones, simply go to m.google.com/mail and download application. Install it and that’s it. You are done, simply run the application to start using Gmail on your Cell Phone

Go to gmail.com in your mobile browser

The easiest way to check Gmail from your phone is to go to gmail.com in your device’s mobile browser. That opens a version of Gmail built especially for small screens, where you can see messages grouped into conversations, search through your mail, or flag important messages with stars. On some devices (iPhone and Android), Gmail offers some additional features like the ability to add and remove labels and basic offline support. Text the link to your phone to get started.

Use your phone’s built in email application

Many mobile devices come with native mail applications pre-installed. Setting up Gmail to work with them is usually pretty straight-forward and there is often a wizard to help.

If you have an iPhone or Windows Mobile device, you can get push Gmail using Google Sync. Otherwise, you can set things up using IMAP with these step-by-step directions for specific devices. Depending on your particular phone, you may notice features such as search, conversations, and stars missing. On the plus side, these applications tend to start up quickly and work even when you’re not connected to the internet.

Google Urdu Transliteration Plugin for WordPress

Most of us are familiar with Google Urdu Transliteration Service that converts Roman Urdu sentences into Urdu fonts.

Here we got this WordPress Plugin, which can enable your blog comments Google Transliteration ready, meaning that commenters will be able to type in Roman Urdu while output will be served as Urdu Fonts, and that too automatically.

Once installed and activated, this plugin will offer an option of Enabling Google Transliteration.


Administrators will have to set a default language, out of 13 available languages to be used for the comments. Other than this, you can enable Google Transliteration by default or let the reader select it if required.

Google Mobile Maps Now Give Turn by Turn Directions for Pakistan

We have covered before how Google Maps works, and then also reviewed when Google Maps started giving driving directions for Pakistani audience.

Now, widely considered as a big breakthrough, Google Mobile Maps also offer Turn by Turn navigation directions for Pakistan.

Google Mobile Maps are community driven maps, through Google Map Maker. We know that Pakistan netizens posted more localized information and data to the Google’s ‘map maker’ than the web users of any of the 160 countries which are using the leading internet search engine’s experiment.

How to get Turn by Turn Navigation Direction on Google Maps

You need to have Google Mobile maps installed and working on your mobile phone. (Be informed that GPRS data transfer charges may apply).

Install application and simple open Google Mobile Maps, from menu, select “Get Directions”

Backup Your Gmail, Hotmail, Facebook, WordPress, Twitter and More, Fore FREE

Yes, this very amazing service Backupify, is offering backups for WordPress, Gmail, Hotmail, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Google Docs and what not.

Essentially, for every internet user – they are offering something to backup – and for expats, this is a one stop platform to backup all your online accounts.

If you are using WordPress, stop worrying about backups, as this cloud based backups are automatic, seamless and are free (only if you sign-up before February 15th).

Backupify will keep a copy of your database (.sql file) and blog files separately, that you can access anytime in future.

Though it’s very rare, but we have seen instances of Gmail accounts vanishing and then never appearing back.

If you find your emails very crucial, which I suppose they are, you can add your gmail account as well, to download latest copy of your Gmail data.

And all this comes with extremely easy to manage interface. Usually it doesn’t take more than few clicks to add an account for taking backups.

Based on cloud storage, you need little to worry and there are almost no chances that Backupify will lose your backups. They are using Amazon’s S3’s secure and reliable services. Also to mention, all files are stored with secure keys – so that no one can access them.

If you have your own S3 storage account, you can configure it with Backupify to use your space.

Backupify is offering free sign-up till February 15, 2010, and will remain free who are signing up now. After this date two variants of premium accounts (49$ per year and 79$ per year) will be available, which I find very attractive – with what they are offering.

The First ever Pakistani designed, unique mobile application has been uploaded on Nokia Ovi Store and is available for downloading. The one of its kind application hits 10,000 downloads in initial 3 weeks of the launch.

‘Cricket Companion’ is designed by a Pakistani developer who is associated with Tricastmedia – subsidiary of Tech Access Media Solutions (TAMS); company is specialized in development of Mobile, Web and Wap based applications.

Cricket Companion is a GPRS based application which can be installed on the handset; this would enable user to view complete live coverage of all International ODI, Test and T20 Matches. This application will also display the detailed live statistics of any player in the bowling teams. The application also includes Bowling and Batting graphs and charts as well as update alerts.

With Cricket Companion, now you are able to enjoy the live cricket matches anywhere on your mobile phone with the similar thrilling match experience as that of television. This application is now available on Ovi Store for both Nokia S40 & S60 devices.

Ramadan Applications 2009 Now Available at Ovi Store

Nokia announced that its Ramadan applications for 2009 have now become available on Ovi Store.  The updated free mobile applications tailored for the Holy Month of Ramadan can now be downloaded on the compatible Nokia devices directly from Nokia’s Ovi Store.

“Last year’s applications were very well received, as we saw over 2.4 million Ramadan applications downloaded.  And based on the feedback we had received from Nokia consumers, we have further enhanced the offering this year to include additional applications as well as upgrades to some of the existing features.  The applications this year also support a wider range of devices, to include both touch and non-touch Nokia devices,” said Imran Khalid Mahmood, General Manager, Nokia Pakistan.

He added, “Ramadan applications for 2009 are free and join a variety of content on the Ovi Store ready to be downloaded and enjoyed.  Ovi Store has paid and free content from a range of global and local content providers intended to be a friendly, locally-relevant store for the widest range of devices.”

Users can launch Ovi Store from the Download folder on the main menu on their Nokia device or access nokia.com/Ramadan on the PC.

This year’s Ramadan applications are feature packed, and include the Holy Quran, Prayer Times, Hadeeth, Zakah Calculator, Mozzaker, Hajj and Umrah and Cards.  New features include Quran recitation from multiple recitors, which users can choose to download, based on their preference and in MP3 form.  Prayer timings and Qibla direction are provided for 1000 cities in 200 countries, along with the ability to add, remove, update and edit any location using the GPS.  The new Zakah Calculator helps Muslims calculate Zakah based on their income.

The Ramadan applications are developed by ASGATech, a Forum Nokia Premium Partner in the Middle East, with all content reviewed and approved by Al Azhar Al Shareef.

ASGATech CEO, Ali Helmy, said, “We have been developing applications for Nokia since 2006, which has given us an easy way to distribute our mobile applications to millions of consumers. By having our applications on Ovi Store this year, we are able to further extend our reach into the growing mobile applications market”

Ramadan applications for 2009 are compatible with a range of Nokia devices including Nokia N97, Nokia N86, Nokia E75, Nokia E66, Nokia 7210, Nokia 6730c, Nokia 6720c, , Nokia 6303, Nokia 6300, Nokia 6120c, Nokia 5800XpressMusic and Nokia 5130, . The user interface for the applications is in English, Arabic, French and Urdu.

Nokia 2009 Ramadan Applications include the following:

  • The Holy Quran: allows users to read, search, bookmark and listen to Quran recitation
  • Prayer Times: provides prayer timings and Qibla direction for 1000 cities in 200 countries, along with the ability to add, remove, update and edit any location using the GPS
  • Hadeeth: gives an easy and convenient way to read the Honorable Hadeeth from Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Riyad us-Saliheen, Holy Hadeeths and Arba’in An Nawawi
  • Zakah Calculator: helps Muslims calculate Zakah on different kinds of income
  • Hajj and Umrah: offers a mobile guide with multimedia content and the most famous places that people can visit during Hajj and Umrah
  • Mozzaker: allows mobile users to listen, search and translate a large collection of daily Azkar and selected supplications. People can also download more Azkar and share via SMS and MMS with friends and family
  • Cards: helps users create their own Mobile Greeting Cards for different occasions and send them to family and friends via SMS or MMS
